Necklace Length Guide: Find Your Best Fit
Necklace size guide for Pakistan
Choose the right necklace length
Compare inches and centimetres, estimate where a chain may sit, and measure a necklace you already like before shopping online in Pakistan.

Reviewed and updated: August 2026
An 18-inch (45.7 cm) chain is a common everyday starting point, but it will not sit identically on every wearer. Measure a necklace you already like from end to end, including the clasp, then compare that number with the product listing and pendant drop.
An existing necklace gives a more personal reference than a model photo.
The pendant changes the visual length even when the chain stays the same.
Chain length, extender and availability can differ between products.
Necklace length chart: inches and centimetres
| Chain length | Centimetres | Typical placement | Useful for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 in | 35.6 cm | Close to the neck | Choker-style placement |
| 16 in | 40.6 cm | Near the base of the neck | Short pendants and open necklines |
| 18 in | 45.7 cm | Often around the collarbone | Everyday pendants |
| 20 in | 50.8 cm | Usually below the collarbone | More visible pendant drop |
| 22 in | 55.9 cm | Upper chest on many wearers | Longer pendants and layering |
| 24 in | 61.0 cm | Longer statement placement | High necklines and relaxed styling |
Placement is approximate. Neck size, torso length, clothing, chain thickness and pendant weight all affect the result.
How to measure necklace length before buying online
Match necklace length to your neckline
- Crew neck or high neckline: a chain that sits clearly above the fabric or a longer pendant usually reads more intentionally than one caught at the edge.
- V-neck: a small pendant can echo the shape when it remains within the open neckline.
- Collared shirt: decide whether the necklace should sit inside an open collar or over the fabric, then measure for that placement.
- Formal or embroidered outfit: leave breathing room between the necklace and dense embellishment so both remain visible.
How to layer necklaces without crowding the neckline
Start with visible spacing—often about 2 inches—between delicate chains. Combine different pendant shapes or chain textures instead of placing several similar pieces at almost the same height. Put the lightest chain highest and check that every clasp closes securely.
Movement, fabric and chain weight can still cause tangling. If two pieces repeatedly overlap, add more spacing or wear them separately.
A simple three-layer starting point
Try 16, 18 and 20 inches, then adjust for your body and the pendants involved. This is a starting framework, not a universal rule.
Necklace length questions
What is the most common everyday necklace length?
An 18-inch chain is a common starting point, but it sits differently depending on neck and torso proportions. Measure an existing necklace for a better prediction.
Is an 18-inch necklace short or long?
On many wearers it sits around the collarbone. On a larger neck it may sit higher; on a smaller neck it may sit lower.
Does pendant length count in the chain length?
Product pages may list chain length separately from pendant drop. Check both figures to estimate the full visual length.
What necklace length is good for layering?
Lengths separated by about 2 inches are a practical starting point. Larger pendants or textured chains may need more room.
Can an extender change how the necklace sits?
Yes. It adds range, though the extra clasp or weight can sometimes shift a very light chain.
